Hi there! My name is Beth, and my partner Mark and I have become increasingly consumed with the idea of how to be more independent (and I don’t mean more independent of each other).
Like many people, pretty much everything we get in life requires using money to buy it from someone else. All of our food comes from the grocery store or DoorDash. All of the goods we need for our home come from Amazon or Home Depot. We buy our clothes, our entertainment, and the things we need for our hobbies from billion-dollar corporations, and we’re getting kinda tired of it. You too?
Don’t get me wrong, these stores are convenient and easy compared to the alternatives. But that’s why we’re starting small. We’ve begun the journey of gardening, foraging, and repurposing the things we already have for many reasons. We’re hoping to save money, rely less on big businesses, learn new skills, and enjoy ourselves. And hey… if the apocalypse does happen to come sometime soon… We’ll know where to look for food.
Of course someday the goal is to have a couple-acre homestead with goats, bees, cows, and chickens. But for now, we live in a small house in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, and are going to be learning what we can do from our own backyard. We hope you hit that ‘follow’ button to come along with us on this journey to be more responsible, sustainable, and independent. Maybe you’ll pick up a few ideas along the way.
